The Residència de Guions is a development lab for feature film scripts (including animation) and documentaries in Catalan or Spanish, with a strong cultural connection to Catalonia. It is open to screenwriters of any nationality. The 2025 call was open from January 30 to March 3. Selected projects receive a €12,600 grant to focus on script development between September 2025 and May 2026. Participants work with expert mentors, receive training, foster collaboration among authors, and connect with the Catalan and international film industry. Application is free. The aim is to enhance the quality and international reach of Catalan cinema by supporting emerging talent.

Impulso Morelia 11 calls for Mexican feature films (fiction or documentary) in postproduction to participate in its 2025 edition. Selected projects will be presented to international experts (programmers, distributors, producers) to receive feedback and support for completion and circulation.

The call closes on July 23, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. CST. Results will be published on August 26, with the in-person meeting taking place October 13–15 during the 23rd FICM.

Eligible projects must have a rough cut between 70 and 120 minutes, directed by Mexican citizens or legal residents in Mexico, and must not have participated in other work-in-progress programs or previous Impulso Morelia editions.

Awards include the José María Riba Prize ($250,000 MXN), postproduction services worth over 1 million pesos, and promotional support.

The UNIFEST Film 2025 call for entries includes a “Best Short Film Script” category for writers from Mexico and the United States. Any genre or theme is accepted, as long as the script is original, unpublished, and intended for a short film. Submissions are open from January 31 to July 31, 2025 via FilmFreeway. The prize consists of two days of professional filming equipment rental (4K camera, lenses, lights, sound) and one free day in a studio, to support the winning project’s production. Results will be announced between August 28 and 31, 2025. You must attach the required documents (ID, synopsis, rights registration) and follow the festival’s social media. Tres Puertos is a workshop with residency-like characteristics for feature film projects in the development stage. Throughout its history, it has held sessions in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, and Mexico. The workshop focuses on both the narrative, aesthetic, thematic, and conceptual aspects of the projects, as well as on production-related areas and financing circuits. Tres Puertos does not work with thematic modules but rather approaches each project based on its specific needs.

La Burbuja Lab announces its third edition of the Film Residency for Women from Central America and the Caribbean in 2026. This residency is aimed at female filmmakers developing their first or second feature film, whether fiction, documentary, or animation. Over eight days, selected participants will engage in an intensive program of creation, guidance, and collective reflection, designed to strengthen their cinematic projects.

Participants will receive specialized mentorship in directing, screenwriting, production, portfolio design, and pitch preparation. The program also includes masterclasses and opportunities to connect with networks of women in film, fostering professional and creative exchange. The residency will take place at the International Film and Television School (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, from June 22 to 29, 2026. This initiative aims to enhance the artistic and professional development of emerging filmmakers in the region, providing concrete tools to advance their projects toward production and exhibition stages.
